Coaching is

 

On a regular basis I have calls with the athletes I coach. For me to coach the way I am aligned with I want to hear their voices as we talk. The emotions. I can’t always get that from comments in Training Peaks. I can definitely observe some things but it’s all about hearing their voice.

Quite often our calls are at least an hour. During these conversations we talk mostly about the following (in order of most time spent):

  1. Life
  2. Meditation
  3. Nutrition
  4. Training

Life-ing for each is unique. This is what I love about what I do and why I can’t just give someone a plan to run a certain distance. Those 4 items above are how I guide the athletes that work with me. Each person different. Each person on a certain path of their journey here.

With each athlete I coach I see the door they are standing in front of, ready to open yet not sure they are ready to turn the knob. I guide them to open the door.
